The Great Gobal Warming Swindle

Not sure what to make of this, but it is an interesting response to Al Gore.

The first few minutes tell any person who knows anything about global warming and carbon dioxide that the person who made this has no idea what they are talking about.

And maybe you could answer this question...why are a lot of christian organizations anti conservation and environment? Are we not called to take care of God's creation?

What that guy really is asking is "have you hugged a tree today Paul?"

Honestly, there is a difference between conservation and nutso environmentalism. Maybe kiwibound18 can answer this question... why are environmentalist institutions unconcerned with even the possibility that global warming is no more a threat than overpopulation turned out to be? Or if that one was too rough... Why do you claim that christian orginizations are anti-environment when there are many christian conservationists out there? Perhaps its your source for news, or lack thereof. Try punching "christian environmental" into google and see what you come up with kiwi.

I don't recall overpopulation not being a threat, and a major one at that. Where did you get that idea? It is all about sustainability. And let's say global warming isnt a huge issue as Al Gore wants us to believe...it seems that no harm will be done in reducing CO2 emissions and taking a stand in caring for our Earth. I think the institutions are too busy being concerned about the overwhelming facts. I have traveled the world, I have seen the evidence, and I know for a fact the effects of CO2 in the atmosphere. It's not just about cars and hurricanes.

Instead of relying on Google for your answers, pick up a book, talk to a professor, read newspaper articles. Better yet, go to Greenland.

As for the Christian Environmentalists, i did say a lot, not all. This article supports my thought process http://www.tpmcafe.com/blog/specialguests/2007/mar/21/evangelical_environmentalism_and_the_old_new_right
I know there are some out there, I was just asking why more aren't willing to step forward in support of a Godly cause.

So Paul, go hug the tree! that is what I am saying....

Ah, so the threat of Paul Erhlich's over population still hangs over us? That'd be a new one to me.

I would agree that if global warming is not the crisis so many think it is then it would not be a bad idea to cut harmful emissions. The problem is that CO2 may not be a culprit with climate change. Dr. Robert Lindzen of MIT put out a report with the National Academy of Sciences in 2001 claiming that not only was CO2 not a culprit but that if CO2 levels were doubled the temperature increase might be only as high as one degree Celsius. He also bet that within the next 20 years there we will begin to see a cooling trend. Only time will tell eh? Gerald Marsh in a report for the National Center for Public Policy stated that "Carbon dioxide accounts for less than ten percent of the greenhouse gas effect, as carbon dioxide's ability to absorb heat is quite limited." The term "greenhouse effect" is unfortunate since it often results in a totally false impression of the activity of so-called "greenhouse gases." An actual greenhouse works as a physical barrier to convection (the transfer of heat by currents in a fluid) while the atmosphere facilitates convection. So-called "greenhouse gases" in the Earth's atmosphere do not act as a barrier to convection so the impression of actual greenhouse-like activity in the Earth's atmosphere is wrong. So much for knowing the "facts."

As far as my use of google goes...I only wish google had all the answers! Does Dr. Lindzen count as a prof I could talk to?

I suppose I could use a Greenland vacation, I could use a look at the melting ice myself. I have no doubt that it is melting, just as I have no doubt that ice is building in Antarctica. Global climate change is a fact of life apart from man made gases. The fact that the state fossil of Nevada, an arid and mountainous desert state, is the underwater Ichthyosaur attests to this fact. At some point there was a salt water ocean covering the interior of North America. At some point the grassland steppes of Europe and Asia were tundra. And at some point glaciers covered most if not all of northern and central Europe and Asia melting and leaving the beautiful fjords and rocky granite valleys of the Alps (with a little tectonic plate movement thrown in of course). Climate change is a fact of life on earth. Was it the fault of the Flintstones? Of course not. A leading candidate- variations of the sun. That is, of course, just another hypothesis.

You are right, you did say "a lot" of Christian groups and not "all" in regards to their efforts to help the environment. My mistake. Also, I couldn't find the article you referrenced earlier. I did find some other good stuff though so thanks for the link. The first article I found was about SecDef Gates who was the President of my university just a while back.

All in all, should global warming be a real "crisis" it would be necessary to reduce emissions and reverse the trend as much as possible. However, I have seen a lack of evidence pointing toward fossil fuel produced carbon dioxides as the cause and therefore no point in jumping to conclusions just yet.

I suppose I should go hug a tree too even if only in thanks for it providing shade over my fishing spot ;)

kiwibound18, you are very much mistaken about the costs of CO2 control if the Global Warming Religion isn't true. The economic effects of a Kyoto-style emissions control program would be upwards of $60 billion in the U.S. alone, plunging the U.S. into a recession. When the U.S. goes into a recession, the third world goes into destitution, and people die. People die too, when you force smaller auotomobiles on them, and large families can't afford transportation.

Veterans of the stem cell debate know what happens when government sweetheart contracts only go to one side...surprise! Those getting contracts confirm their own need to ...keep getting contracts!

Christians already have a religion. They should not abandon it for the Global Warming Religion, which like other religions, is not subject to the scrutiny of science.
