Religious Vocations on Facebook

I logged into Facebook the other day and 'WOW!' an ad from a religious order promoting vocations for their order.

A great big "YEAH!" to the Salesians of Don Bosco for stepping up and advertising in places that youth frequent. Though, they do need some help with the wording, it is a start. In the world and not of the world -- I wish more vocation offices would take that phrase more seriously when promoting vocations to the priesthood.

I'm curious if the ad attracted any interest.

Also, the link to the Salesians is for the Eastern US province. If you are interested in another province I'm sure you can google it real quick.

Hey Paul,

We have been running this ad on facebook for about 5 or 6 months right now. It does get a lot of hits and we do receive some feedback from it, all of which so far has been very positive.

The purpose obviously is not only to attract vocations to the Salesians of St. John Bosco, but to also get the word out about the order. As the second largest religious order in the world, our name is still not well known in the states.

I actually manage the ad so if you or any of your readers have an idea for how it should read please let me know. Facebook only allows for about 25 words so it's tough to fit content into such a small space :)

I am currently a novice with the Salesians and I have just recently started a blog for any of your readers who might be interested in learning more about the Salesians

I will keep your studies in my prayers. I am a recent ND grad and I am very familiar with the ECHO program as many of my good friends were among the first to graduate from the program.

God Bless Paul!

I just wanted to agree with what Sean said! I am a Salesian Priest and am sometimes surprised at how few people know us in the States! We have more bishops in the Church than any other congregation and 5 very active Cardinals. Cardinal Bertone has been a very public person for us as Secretary of State! Go Salesians! Good job on the blog! Padre Steve

(I tried to post this comment before but my connection pooped out on me. If I am inadvertently posting it twice, sorry!)

I'm just going to jump in here and say the Don Bosco and the orders he founded are awesome. :) I am considerably more familiar with the sisters than the brothers and priests, but I've yet to meet a Salesian of any sort (including the lay Cooperators!) I didn't love.

I feel all warm and fuzzy inside because I know all of the people who commented before me! ;)

Thanks for spotlighting the ad... it is truly surprising how unknown our Salesian Family is... with 17,000 priests and brothers, 15,000 sisters, and 35,000 Salesian Cooperators... you'd think people would know us! Even with all of those people, we are one.

Maybe it has something to do with how unassuming most Salesians are. We do not really stand out in a crowd, except for being the ones who are always with the young people. ;)
