Save the Gulf Coast, Drink Beer!

S.O.S Bottle
The Abita Brewery, located about 60 miles North of New Orleans, came up with a great way to save the Gulf Coast  without having to trudge down to the coast and spend all day in the hot sun picking up tar balls.  Solution: drink beer.  Abita Brewery has just released a pilsner styled beer, which they named S.O.S (save our shore).  The message on the bottle reads: "This Abita brew is a message in a bottle.  A distress signal for the troubled waters of our Gulf Coast.  For every bottle sold Abita will donate 75 cents to the rescue and restoration of the environment, industry and individuals fighting to survive this disastrous oil spill."

The brewery describe the beer as following (also from the bottle): "This unfiltered Weizen Pils is made with Pilsner and Wheat malts.  It is hopped and dry hopped with Sterling and German Perle hops.  It has a brilliant gold color, a sweet malt flavor, and a pleasant bitterness and aroma."

I have not tried it, but plan on drinking it later today.

I hope they provide this as a refreshing beverage to the relief workers on the beaches.

FYI:  Abita Brewery brews one of my favorite beers, Turbodog.  You can usually find this out side of Louisiana in the warehouse style liquor stores.
